Barbados will this week host the third Caribbean Community, CARICOM, Regional Conference on Reparations.
Themed “Reparatory justice as the coming enlightenment”, the conference will open on Thursday at the Wyndham Grand Barbados Resort.
It follows the adoption of a landmark United Nations resolution on March 25th this year, which declared the trafficking and racialised chattel enslavement of Africans to be “the gravest crime against humanity”.
The three-day session is being hosted by the Government of Barbados, the CARICOM Reparations Commission and the CARICOM Secretariat.
It will provide practical guidance on implementing the revised CARICOM Ten-Point Plan for Reparatory Justice, while highlighting new perspectives emerging from African and Caribbean political discourse.
