Junior students of the Ellerslie School will be able to see more as the campus will be ten times brighter.
The Black Rock, St. Michael School is a recipient of an initiative by the Caribbean Disaster Management Agency (CDEMA) and the Norway Project to implement the Model Safe School Programme Costed Action Plan.
In 2017, the Caribbean Development Bank provided a grant of £746,000 to CDEMA to implement a toolkit for the Model Safe School Programme in Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, St. Kitts and Nevis, and St. Lucia.
The Government of Norway joined forces with CDEMA and 33 schools, one of which was the Ellerslie School, were selected to benefit with an injection of US$660,000 in the Pilot Project.
This will benefit Ellerslie with a reduced light bill and redound to the benefit of present and incoming students.
Deputy Executive Director of CDEMA Kester Craig says it was imperative to work alongside all stakeholders as the responsibility to build on resilience is very weighty.
Mr. Craig adds it is noteworthy to look at how to utilise artificial intelligence in a bid to build resilient communities and schools as what is happening presently in the region is the tip of the iceberg and it will get worse.
Chief Education Officer Dr. Ramona Archer-Bradshaw says after realising the lighting at Ellerslie needed to be enhanced, lighting in the classrooms, bathrooms, staff room, corridors and stairwells of the junior block will be upgraded.
Principal Andrea Baptiste says it is important to recognise the global village that helps to create the kind of people that the world needs.
