The Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) is refuting claims that its ongoing strike action is political or that the union is affiliated with any political party.
According to BUT President Rudy Lovell, while members are entitled to their personal political views, the union itself is not, and has never been, a political organisation, and it will not be used as such.
He was speaking following a press conference held by the Ministry of Education, where Minister of Educational Transformation, Senator Chad Blackman, noted the timing of the union’s action and questioned whether it was politically motivated.
