Barbados must become the most prosperous and advanced nation in the world.
This is a goal that the Government of Barbados has in mind, according to Minister of Educational Transformation, Senator Chad Blackman.
He was speaking at the annual general meeting of the National Union of Public Workers.
Minister Blackman says that for the Government to achieve its goal, there must be a retooling and retraining of both the public and private sectors.
According to him, the way in which work is done will look vastly different in the coming years, and because of this, retooling is a major priority.
Meanwhile, NUPW President Kimberley Agard says the trade union movement across the world is at a crossroads, with unions facing immense challenges.
She says some of the challenges include declining membership, shifting work environments, and resistance to collective bargaining, which threaten the strength of organised labour.
She says public workers have always been the foundation of the country’s success, and their rights and livelihoods must be protected and enhanced.
