Barbados has a new 16-minute film which explores themes of addiction, compassion, recovery and second chances.
Call Me Raven was developed through extensive research and inspired by several real-life experiences. It includes the recovery journey of Barbadian recording and mix engineer and independent filmmaker, Alexander Raven, who overcame addiction and now runs his own production company.
The film aims to encourage discussion around substance abuse and the possibility of positive change.
It is a partnership between the National Cultural Foundation, Sandy Lane Charitable Trust and Northern Ireland charity Cinemagic.
Filmed in Barbados in March, the film was premiered at the Daphne Joseph Hackett Theatre this week.
Business Development Officer for the NCF, Lisa Howell, says the premiere is both an artistic and community achievement.
The project marks the first time Cinemagic has delivered one of its acclaimed film academies in the Caribbean.
Chief Executive of Cinemagic, Joan Burney Keatings MBE, says upon arriving in Barbados, she was overwhelmed by the infectious spirit, kindness and incredible talent of the cast, crew and talented young people.
