Technological development has already made dynamic contributions to capital markets, making them more accessible and decentralised.
The observation came from Managing Director of the Barbados Stock Exchange, Marlon Yarde, as he discussed the topic “How Technology is Changing the Landscape.”
He said the scale of the impact depends on the stakeholder, and with this in mind, some clear distinctions should be made, particularly between traditional players, such as stock exchanges, and emerging upstarts in the capital markets.
On a fundamental basis, the BSE head noted that traditional capital markets rely on mandated intermediaries such as brokers, banks, and exchanges.
He said collectively, stakeholders are adapting to a constantly changing financial landscape.
