Barbadians are being told they can no longer turn a blind eye to domestic violence and sexual abuse.
This is the reaction of President of the National Organisation of Women Melissa Savoury-Gittens, who was responding to amendments to the Sexual Offences Act.
She was speaking during an installation ceremony at the First Baptist Church, The City.
Ms. Savoury-Gittens is calling for specialised courts which will fast-track cases of sexual abuse, particularly those involving minors.
Additionally, she says stronger prevention programmes in schools and communities that educate children and parents about dangers are needed.
