A possible solution is being suggested for a potentially dangerous problem.
It’s about the use of weedwackers, which have a tendency to turn rocks and small debris into missiles that can cause injury to people or damage vehicles.
Concerned citizen, Jethro Gibson is advocating for the use of mobile screens as a preventative measure.
He came up with the idea after being a victim of weed wackers’ strikes on two separate occasions.
In August, while driving around Country Road, St. Michael, his vehicle was struck as workers of the National Housing Commission were operating weedwackers.
And then just Monday, a stone struck him in his face, while National Conservation Commission workers were operating weedwackers along Black Rock, St. Michael.
Mr. Gibson says officials from both state-owned agencies apologised and he suggested the safety protocol.
He adds that his own investigations have revealed that too many people are being affected by flying objects from weedwackers.
When contacted, Minister of Environment and National Beautification and the Blue and Green Economy, Adrian Forde, said Government takes the public’s safety seriously and therefore will take Mr. Gibson’s suggestion into consideration.
