The Heart and Stroke Foundation is pushing for a crackdown on marketing in schools to curb the onslaught of childhood obesity.
Head of the Law and Health Research Unit, Faculty of Law at the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill, Nicole Foster, is a partner in the campaign.
She notes that with 31% of children on the island being overweight or obese, this sets them up for non-communicable diseases.
With today being World Obesity Day, Ms. Foster says NCDs remain a serious problem.
She was a guest on CBC TV8’s Mornin’ Barbados.
Ms. Foster reminded parents that they must make decisions, though not popular, that are in the best interest of their children.
