Minister of Home Affairs and Information Wilfred Abrahams, has declared the 2024 Crop Over Festival “one of the best”, despite several challenges.
Mr. Abrahams, who is the Member of Parliament for Christ Church East, was speaking during the constituency’s annual general meeting.
Minister Abrahams sought to explain the rationale for calling off the Soca 5.0 show, after it had started.
He said there was a bad lightning storm off Barbados, with about 300 strikes occurring in 15 minutes.
Mr. Abrahams admits after the decision was taken, the storm veered away from the island.
However, he notes the high winds resulted in some challenges for band leaders who were preparing for Grand Kadooment the following day.
This led to a two-hour delay in the start time.
