A joint plea has been made for national mobilisation against the rising gun violence, drug abuse and social breakdown.
The plea from Deputy Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw, who was speaking during a Barbados Labour Party Christ Church East Branch meeting last night, at St Christopher Primary School. She says crime is no longer a statistic, and laments how painful it is to hear of another shooting.
Minister of Home Affairs and Information, Wilfred Abrahams, says frank conversations need to happen across the country in all spheres. He says the biggest concerns in Barbados right now are the ongoing violence, gun violence, robberies and guns.
Minister Abrahams, who is also the Member of Parliament for Christ Church East, urges Barbadians to stop turning a blind eye and speak up about illegal activities.
