Government is seeking to protect witnesses giving evidence in the law courts.
Attorney General Dale Marshall has announced that a Draft Bill dealing with the protection of witnesses will shortly be shared with the Barbados Bar Association for its consideration and comments.
He made the disclosure while addressing the opening of a two-day symposium on the Criminal Justice (Plea Negotiations and Agreements) Act, 2024, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
The Attorney General says the Legislation on the protection of witnesses would be modelled after that of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
And on another note, Mr. Marshall noted that the Barbados Bar Association’s Criminal Committee examined the Plea Bargaining Legislation before it went to Parliament, and his office was able to incorporate some of the critiques.
