There’s been an upgrade to Barbados’ early warning system, as the hurricane season approaches.
This was revealed by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, as she addressed the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology Workshop – “Climate Services to Support Adaptation and Resilience in the Caribbean” – at the Accra Beach Hotel.
According to her, approval has been granted by NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for advance use of the Hurricane Hunter aircraft.
The Prime Minister says this will significantly improve the level of accuracy in tracking approaching storms.
Barbados’ early warning system has also been helping the island in its response to drought.
