Economist and Deputy Principal of the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus Professor Winston Moore says by setting firm targets, it will communicate to the private sector that the transition needs to be done quickly.
He says one of the areas that utilises a lot of fossil fuels is transportation.
While the economist notes there has been a lot of demand in the renewable energy industry, he says the real issue that has held the country back is that of storage.
