Opposition Leader Ralph Thorne is renewing calls for Government to pay monies owed to fisherfolk impacted in the wake of Hurricane Beryl.
Addressing a press conference, Thorne says Government is obligated to keep its promise of giving boat owners a $2,000 subsidy for three months starting September, and fishermen and vendors $1,500 each.
Mr. Thorne who addressed the issue on November 7, says he is yet to receive a response to the November 1 dated two-page letter he wrote to the Chief Fisheries Officer.
Meanwhile, he says his office is being bombarded with calls and complaints from fisherfolk who are yet to receive the first month of the three months subsidy.
When contacted for a response Minister of Environment and National Beautification Adrian Forde pointed us to comments made on the issue last week.
He said the Ministry has disbursed one million, five hundred and fifty three thousand, nine hundred and twenty-one dollars and sixty cents in business interruption benefits.
Minister Forde says the Ministry is committed to working with all fisherfolk to ensure the speedy recovery of the fishing industry.
