Work continues this Crime Awareness Month to change the mindset of young Barbadians.
Spearheading this effort is the Criminal Justice Research and Planning Unit.
It was revealed on analysis of the trends in Barbados, most crimes, including murders, were being committed by young people.
Through its theme for the month “Engaging Youth to Prevent Offending and Reoffending” the Unit will be highlighting the positives young Barbadians can do.
Research Officer, Sabrina Roach says data points to several risk factors behind criminal activity, including unemployment, low educational attainment and family issues.
She was a guest on CBC TV8’s Mornin’ Barbados.
Senior Research Analyst at the Unit, Kirk Goodridge says youth input is critical to addressing the scourge.
