Elderly pedestrian dies in collision

An elderly pedestrian lost his life in a collision on Wednesday evening.

The Barbados Police Service is investigating the incident which was reported around 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. The accident occurred along Salters Road, St. George and involved two motor cars and the pedestrian.

He has been identified as 72-year-old Winfield Welch 72 years of Greenfield, St. Michael.

Police said that Welch “allegedly crossed the roadway and was involved in a collision with the first motorcar, he was then struck and pinned under the second motor car. The deceased was later extricated by personnel from the Barbados Fire Service.

“Personnel from the Barbados Ambulance Service were on scene and determined that there were no signs of life. A medical doctor visited the scene and pronounced death.”
