A group of former law enforcement officers are on a drive to assist local law enforcement to boost recruitment numbers.
And to do this, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Caribbean Law Enforcement Foundation, David Watson, says he intends to launch a programme aimed at teenagers aged 14 to 18.
The former detective with the New York Police Department says he saw the need to give back to his country, and has been in discussions with officials to get a cadet programme up and running come September.
Mr. Watson notes there is a lack of youth being recruited for The Barbados Police Service, but he is confident that this programme will encourage them to join upon completion.
Director of Training and Development with the Caribbean Safety Agency, Anthony Leacock, who will be one of the facilitators within the programme, says one of the main areas of focus is navigating the rudiments of operating in an online sphere.
He says social media can be a good tool, once used correctly.
And he gives the young men and women this advice.
