An operation has begun at Barbados Port Inc. which will substantially increase its cargo handling capacity and efficiency.
It involves the installation of two new, electric-powered ship-to-shore gantry cranes on berth 6.
Chief Executive Officer, David Jean-Marie says the cranes are vital to Barbados’ success and critical to its growth noting they complement the two existing gantry cranes in operation at Berths 4 and 5.
Mr. Jean-Marie says representatives from the crane manufacturers are coordinating the cranes’ unloading and installation along with the port’s terminal operations and engineering teams.
He says the cranes’ arrival is a major milestone in the construction of berth 6, expected to be completed by July this year.
