Barbados has told a major renewable energy conference that small island developing states (SIDS) need to have equal opportunities to access financing, among other things.
That was part of the message delivered by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kerrie Symmonds, as he addressed a three-day meeting on transitioning to renewable energy, which kicked off in Barbados today.
200 delegates are participating in the sessions, being co-hosted by the Government of Barbados and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), at the Hilton Barbados.
Key stakeholders, including senior Government officials, regulators, the private sector, project developers and financing partners, are involved in the talks.
Minister Symmonds called for a level playing field.
Director General of IRENA, Francesco La Camera, spoke of the Agency’s efforts to ensure SIDS have equal opportunities.
