The Government of Barbados and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) have partnered to launch the Green Rising in Barbados project.
This youth-centred programme is designed to accelerate the country’s transition to a 100% green and fossil-free economy by 2035.
It will be funded by a one-million-dollar grant from Generation Unlimited through UNICEF, with the goal of engaging five thousand young people over a three-year period through inclusive, gender-responsive initiatives.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office with responsibility for Culture, Senator Shantal Munro-Knight, says the project will both challenge and inspire the youth.
The programme is set to be launched tomorrow with a ceremony, followed by a symbolic tree planting exercise in the National Botanical Gardens, Codrington, St. Michael.
