Government is moving to expedite a “licensing and grid-connection pathway” for existing solar generation licensees seeking to add battery energy storage.
Senior Minister and Minister of Energy and Business Kerrie Symmonds made the announcement during a media briefing on the state of the energy sector at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre this morning.
He says the move provides a structured and transparent means of unlocking approximately 33.1 megawatts of licensed solar capacity that is currently either curtailed or awaiting connection.
Minister Symmonds explains that a holder of a generation licence may apply through the Ministry’s online portal for an energy storage licence.
He says when such a licensee proposes to add storage, that individual is then moved to the front of the storage pre-licensing queue.
