Labour Minister Colin Jordan also indicated that Government is pressing on with the implementation of the new minimum wage, which takes effect from June 1st.
He says the national minimum wage will be set at $10.50 per hour, with a sectoral minimum wage of $11.40 for security guards, and he notes that overtime rates will follow from the new rates to be implemented.
Minister Jordan says while there were a number of objections made to the Minimum Wage Board, and officials understand the increased costs to businesses, they have asked employers not to use this as a reason to reduce employee hours of work.
