Government is on a mission to further include those with disabilities in all aspects of building a sustainable society.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs Jehu Wiltshire says the opportunities available are now with a view to setting an inclusive climate, while ensuring fulfilling and active lives for those with disabilities.
He says the new social empowerment agency is seeking to create the Mangrove Agricultural Project to train people with disabilities in food crop production.
Mr. Wiltshire was speaking at the launch of the Month of the Disabled, under the theme “One Community United in Action for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future”.
Meanwhile, President of the Barbados Council for the Disabled Patricia Padmore-Blackman is calling on society to become more inclusive of all.
She wants those with disabilities to be seen beyond the month of celebrations.
