As the anniversary of the passage of Hurricane Beryl nears, Minister of the Environment, National Beautification and the Blue and Green Economy, Adrian Forde, says it should serve as a wake-up call for the fisheries industry.
He says that before Hurricane Beryl, the industry was informal, and there are several lessons learnt.
Minister Forde’s remarks came during a service at the Carrington Wesleyan Holiness Church, celebrating the opening of the 2025 Barbados Fisherfolk Festival.
There, the Barbados National Union of Fisherfolk Organisation – BARNUFO – signalled its support of sustainable practices in the island’s fisheries sector.
President Vernell Nicholls says a healthy ocean signals a stable climate, noting the future of the planet depends on how we act today.
