More women are presenting with type two diabetes in Barbados.
That’s according to Lecturer and Head of the Institute for Gender and Development Studies at the Nita Barrow unit of the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus, Dr. Tonya Haynes.
She says throughout the region women are at one and a half times the excess risk of men for contracting the debilitating disease.
And shes’ inviting all Barbadians to join them on Wednesday night as they present in the Flesh: Critical Reflections on Black Women’s Experiences of Food, Embodiment, and Type Two Diabetes.
Dr. Haynes says they have been conducting a study centred around women living with type two diabetes in Barbados for over a year.
She was speaking as a guest on Mornin’ Barbados.
