Officials at the Vector Control Unit say there has been an increase in rodents across the landscape of Barbados as a result of indiscriminate dumping.
Senior Environmental Health Officer Erskine Springer is advising people to clean up their premises to discourage the vermin from encroaching on their properties.
He was speaking while distributing rat bait at Emerald City Complex.
Mr. Springer says when notice is served to those with overgrown lots, they usually comply.
However, he warns those who do not clean their premises that they will be prosecuted.
