Chairman of the Barbados Broadcasting Authority, Dr the Honourable Allyson Leacock, has joined the voices expressing condolences on the passing of former Director of News and Current Affairs at the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation, George Hall.
Describing Mr Hall as a media specialist and trusted editorial voice, Dr Leacock says she had the privilege of working alongside him during their years as Foreign Service Nationals at the United States Embassy, where he served as a Public Affairs Specialist.
Later, while serving as CBC’s General Manager, Dr Leacock invited Mr Hall to serve on an editorial panel as the corporation sought to strengthen its news product.
Dr Leacock, who also serves as Chairman of the CBC Transformation Steering Committee, honoured Mr Hall not only for what he contributed to the media industry, but for what he represented: decency, credibility, courage, balance and an unwavering commitment to truth.
She says Barbados has lost a journalist of substance, a media professional of integrity and a gentleman of rare humanity, whose voice, laughter and example will long be remembered.
Dr Leacock expressed the hope that Mr Hall’s legacy will continue to serve as a reminder that ethical journalism remains one of the pillars of a healthy democracy.
