Barbados’ ageing population presents not only challenges but also opportunities for the economy.
That’s according to Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Mark Franklyn, who says opportunities include the rise of a silver economy, which involves older citizens being included in social and economic life.
He was speaking during a stakeholder consultation on legislation concerning the rights of older persons, where he stressed the need for Government to provide legal protection for this vulnerable group.
And with the ever-changing landscape of elder care, Special Advisor on Elder Affairs, Cynthia Forde, says there is a need for families, communities and institutions to work together.
