The long-awaited linear accelerator, which will provide life-saving treatment for cancer patients, has finally arrived at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The 11,000-pound machine was delivered today after being moved from storage with the help of a rigging team sent by the supplier to assist a local team.
Installation is expected to start on October 27th and be completed by early November, with treatment of patients to begin by the last week of that month.
Medical physicist at the QEH, Corey Drakes, who is leading the linear accelerator project, says this is an exciting time for the hospital.
