A major expansion of the physical structure at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital is on the way.
This announcement comes from Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley.
She revealed that a Chinese company has won the procurement process to carry out the expansion works.
Prime Minister Mottley made the disclosure during the official opening of the Bayview Urgent Care 24/7 facilities at Bayville, St. Michael, stating that the construction will result in a 40% increase in the hospital’s capacity.
She also announced that the facility being constructed to house the linear accelerator machine for cancer treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital is expected to be completed within a matter of weeks.
Bayview Urgent Care is a technologically advanced facility, featuring a 24-hour on-site laboratory, ambulance services, an additional operating theatre, and diagnostic radiology services, including a new computerised tomography (CT) scanner and an X-ray machine.
Prime Minister Mottley says the new facilities will help improve the delivery of healthcare on the island.
