“Urgency” is the word tonight in St. Joseph, where the collapse of a bridge in Melvin Hill has left residents cut off.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Works, Santia Bradshaw, says repairs are being treated as a top priority.
Speaking to the media this afternoon alongside members of the Transport Authority and members of the Ministry of Transport and Works, Ms. Brashaw said that since the collapse last evening, the Ministry has been working with engineers to carry out urgent assessments.
The bridge serves as a vital link for commuters, and the Minister of Transport and Works says alternative roads are being explored, and they are also considering a shuttle system.
