Newly appointed Government Senator Jonathan Reid was welcomed to the Upper House as the Senate met for the second reading of the Social Empowerment Bill 2025.
Leader of Government Business and Minister of Energy and Business, Senator Lisa Cummins, in extending the welcome, said she looks forward to working with Senator Reid, the Minister of Innovation, Industry, Science and Technology.
Senator Cummins also expressed appreciation for the service of Senator Dr. Crystal Haynes, who had agreed to step down to facilitate the appointment of Senator Reid.
According to Ms. Cummins, the contributions of Senator Haynes were not insignificant.
