Employers are being warned about paying against what they are contracted to pay.
The warning comes from Minister of Labour, Colin Jordan, as he said that Government will move ahead with the implementation of the new minimum wage on June 1st.
He notes that while there has been broad compliance, there is no formal mechanism in place to check for reduced hours for employees.
Mr. Jordan stresses that inspectors will continue to carry out checks.
Additionally, Mr. Jordan says individuals who are part of a structured, obligatory, or voluntary programme, job attachment, or work experience not exceeding three months, will be paid at a rate of 85% of the new minimum wage.
