The Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs has expressed an interest in acquiring braille blocks.
That’s according to First Secretary at the Embassy of Japan in Barbados, Miura Shitau.
He says discussions are currently underway with Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Kirk Humphrey, and a Japanese supplier.
Mr. Shitau made the announcement during a courtesy call by the Resident Ambassador of Japan to Barbados, His Excellency Yusuke Miyasaka, to the Minister.
Minister Humphrey noted that during a visit to Japan in 2023, he observed yellow blocks in front of every building.
He explained that the blocks carry a raised pattern designed to guide visually impaired individuals by indicating which direction to follow.
