The National School Nutrition Policy appears to be gaining ground.
This as more Barbadian students have been opting to quench their thirst with water, instead of sweet drinks.
The update from Education Officer with Responsibility for Healthy Initiatives in Schools, Hedda Phillips-Boyce.
She was speaking as the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Barbados in partnership with Ross University, presented four schools with water coolers.
The donation marks the continuation of a push by the Muslim community to ensure all public primary and secondary schools have coolers.
Associate Dean for External Affairs for Ross University, Dr. Rhonda McIntyre, says the donation is intended to help address the growing concern of obesity among the youth.
Rock Christian, Eden Lodge Primary, Queen’s College and St. George Secondary are the schools benefitting from the donation.
Principal of Eden Lodge Primary, Deborah Stoute-Burke, was among the schools’ leaders on hand to offer thanks.
