A new climate school is set to be built in Barbados.
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has announced that construction of the new Chelston Academy in Chelston Park, Collymore Rock will start soon and should be completed within a year.
She says government is partnering with the U.S-based XQ Institute on the development of the new school, located adjacent to RBC Royal Bank (Barbados) Ltd.
It will serve as a model for 21st century learning in the Caribbean.
She made the announcement while delivering the feature address at the opening of the Oceana Innovation Hub in Carlisle Bay, which is aimed at fostering innovation and education transformation. It’s another collaborative initiative between Government and XQ Institute.
The sustainably-designed facility, located on the grounds of the former Coastal Zone Management Unit on Carlisle Bay, is a dynamic space focussed on ocean innovation, climate research, student empowerment and future-ready learning.
Prime Minister Mottley says the initiative represents a key pillar of Government’s ambitious education transformation agenda, which is committed to ensuring that every child has access to fair, inclusive, relevant and modern education that unlocks their full potential.
