The Ministry of Housing, Lands and Maintenance will be embarking on a project aimed at reducing the density in housing estates in the Pine, St. Michael.
Minister Dwight Sutherland updated the Deputy Prime Minister and MP for the area, Santia Bradshaw, revealing funds have been budgeted, the Environmental Impact Assessment conducted and lands identified at Lower Burney.
He provided further insight into how the project will be tackled.
Minister Sutherland says despite the many challenges his Ministry has made significant strides in fulfilling its mandate.
According to him, an ambitious target for housing in Barbados has been set – the last of which was seen in the 70s under the late Prime Minister, Tom Adams.
Currently, he revealed there are 20,000 applications before the National Housing Corporation.
He says Government’s housing framework must evolve to meet demands as he broke down the Estimates.
