Over the last 15 years or so, only about 20,000 people have made the move to Barbados through the CARICOM Skills Certificate.
That is according to renowned regional broadcaster and journalist Julian Rogers, who reassures that there is nothing to worry about with CARICOM’s full free movement set to take effect from October 1.
He says that while there is a small number of people worrying, it is due to ignorance. Mr Rogers was speaking as a guest on TV 8’s Mornin’ Barbados.
Furthermore, Mr Rogers says Barbadians should be the last group of people to be afraid of other people coming into the country. He stresses that Barbadians have for decades been in every country across the region, and notes that this fear dates back to the days of the Federation. Mr Rogers is urging those who understand the concept to speak up, as he cannot do it alone.
