The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season begins on June 1, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued its official outlook.
The agency predicts a 60% chance of an above-normal season, using a combination of scientific models and forecasting tools.
NOAA is forecasting a range of 13 to 19 total named storms with winds of 39 miles per hour or higher.
Of those, six to 10 are expected to become hurricanes with winds of 74 miles per hour or higher, including three to five major hurricanes, Category 3, 4, or 5, with winds of 111 miles per hour or higher.
In a statement, NOAA administrators said they have 70% confidence in these ranges.
