Opposition Leader, Ralph Thorne today completed what has been described as a marathon Budget reply.
He started just after three yesterday afternoon and after a break last night returned this morning and completed his presentation just after noon.
In his presentation he touched on several areas including health care.
He criticised Government for cutting its spend on the sector, using private firms to provide security services in schools and the payment of large sums to overseas consultants.
He also asked for restoration of leave for teachers and to introduce a Republic Constitution.
The Opposition Leader also outlined the ambitions of the Democratic Labour Party pledging that a new DLP government will seek to ensure electricity rates are reduced in Barbados.
He’s also proposed to lower the VAT.
Commitments have also been made to tourism, sports, and the education sectors.
Regarding culture, Mr. Thorne says Barbados needs a new cultural policy. The Opposition Leader has also promised that a DLP Government will modernise the Barbados Police Service and attend to the concerns of its members.
Mr. Thorne has proposed a Public Defender’s Office and committed to establishing a different relationship with the criminal element.
