One hundred and forty-nine thousand, eight hundred and twenty-three people have received the $300 one-off Solidarity Allowance.
Minister in the Ministry of Finance Ryan Straughn says a total of $44,616,900 has been paid out.
He says authorities regret the long lines at post offices as people seek to register for the allowance.
However, he explains that some individuals are required to register so authorities can obtain up-to-date information, particularly regarding their addresses.
Minister Straughn says the appeal was made for people to register as early as possible, to allow the National Insurance Scheme to get on with the business of either processing the payment, making deposits to bank accounts, or working with the Barbados Postal Service to have cheques mailed to recipients.
According to Minister Straughn, based on the 2024 census, approximately 50,000 Barbadians still need to register for the one-off Solidarity Allowance.
He was giving an update on the matter during a news conference at Parliament.
