Parents are being encouraged to prepare children for the transition to secondary school from now.
The advice from consultant psychiatrist Dr. Joy Sue.
She notes the transition can be nerve-wracking for some students, and parents ought to tell children it is an opportunity for them to meet new people and have new opportunities.
Dr. Sue was speaking as a guest on Mornin’ Barbados on the topic of Managing Anxiety Through Change.
Dr. Sue further emphasises the need to build the child’s confidence from an early stage.
