The Pine Hill Dairy is reporting a shortage of milk and is moving to address it by temporary importation.

In a release Country Manager, Shafia London notes over the past year, they have experienced shortfalls of raw milk from farmers due to the weather conditions on island and other factors.

She says the scenario is not unique to the PHD as many global dairy operators, including a major supplier of milk powder have experienced issues. The powder is a core ingredient in some of the company’s products such as evaporated milk.

The PHD Country Manager says they have been able to source an alternate supply which requires reformulation and testing and expect to be back to normal production by August.

Ms. London says in the interim, they have made arrangements to acquire milk from a neighboring Caribbean dairy to meet the anticipated demands for June and July.

She says they are confident the problem will be remedied in the long term given the subventions provided by the Government and internal process adjustments.
