
In an unexpected turn of events, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has announced a number of adjustments to her Cabinet today.
Minister of State in the Office of the Attorney General with a focus on crime prevention Corey Lane will, by his request be relieved of his duties for personal reasons, effective tomorrow, February 26, 2025. The Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs will now take responsibility for Crime Prevention.
Meanwhile, Marsha Caddle has also requested to be relieved of her duties today, and former Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister’s Office Jonathan Reid has been appointed Minister of Innovation, Industry, Science and Technology. Dr. Crystal Haynes has agreed to step down as a Senator to facilitate the appointment of Mr. Reid to that portfolio.
Minister Kay McConney will become the Minister of Economic Affairs and Investment, while Senator Chad Blackman will succeed her as Minister of Education, Technological and Vocational Training. Minister Sandra Husbands will become the Minister of Training and Tertiary Education.
In a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, it is noted these changes in a number of key ministerial portfolios are aimed at strengthening the Government’s focus on national priorities.
Prime Minister Mottley has expressed her confidence in the new appointees and underscored the importance of these Ministries in Barbados’ development agenda.
