The Barbados Police Service has corrected what it called “inaccurate information” reported by the media in relation to the total number of murders in 2024.
In a press release, the Service notes that they have “recorded and investigated forty-nine (49) cases of Murder and one (1) case of Manslaughter” during that period.
It was also clarified that all of the deaths are considered to be homicides. There were therefore 50 homicides in 2024.
The statement from the Barbados Police Service follows:
It has come to the attention of The Barbados Police Service that inaccurate information pertaining to 2024 Crime statistics – specifically as it relates to the number of Murders recorded for the year 2024, has been circulating via the various media channels.
Please note that The Barbados Police Service has recorded and investigated forty-nine (49) cases of Murder and one (1) case of Manslaughter for the year 2024.
