Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has implored world leaders to join the conversation around the climate crisis regardless of political differences.
Ms Mottley pointed to the late Pope Francis, who remained forthright in stating what was necessary to save the planet.
The Barbadian leader believes part of the key is in finding what she termed the “love language” that makes conversations between opposing sides possible, including climate activists and climate deniers.
She warned that the world is at an awkward stage and if countries don’t get the equation correct, it is going to destabilize access to food and water as well as impact security.
Ms Mottley comments came as she addressed the 2025 TIME Earth Awards in Manhattan. This year marks Time’s third annual Earth Awards.
Ms Mottley accepted the award on behalf of Barbados, Small Island Developing States and other developing nations.
