Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has called for a new deal to fund global public goods.

She made the call as she accepted a lifetime award for global health from the Director-General of the World Health Organisation.

The Prime Minister was presented with the Director-General’s Award for Global Health over the weekend during the launch of WHO’s investment round in Geneva Switzerland.

During her address, she noted that the world could no longer depend on states to be the main funders of global public goods, as public funds are increasingly difficult to find.

Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says the investment round is seeking to raise billions of dollars to fund the Fourteenth General Programme of Work (GPW 14).

The four-year strategy seeks to reinvigorate actions needed to get the health-related sustainable development goals on track, with Dr. Tedros suggesting a radical course correction is necessary.
