There is still a need to educate Barbadians about gynaecological issues, in particular endometriosis.
That’s according to Founder and Executive Director of the Katrina Endometriosis and Women’s Health Association of Barbados, Katrina Alleyne.
With the spotlight on Endometriosis Month, she says they started Body Talk sessions at some secondary schools, and have since collaborated with Massy Distribution to highlight menstrual hygiene.
Ms. Alleyne, who is an endometriosis sufferer, says it is still an invisible disease and urges parents and other adults to stop classifying it as “a bad period”, and pay closer attention to their children.
She says so far the sessions have been running very well, and boys are also a part of the sessions, which have been impactful.
Ms. Alleyne says the sessions also allow the students to be more aware of what is to come as they grow older.
