Minister of Labour, Social Security and Third Sector, Colin Jordan, says the trade union movement in Barbados and the Caribbean has lost a stalwart.
Mr. Jordan recalls Mr. Denis Clarke was direct and straightforward in his interactions, and remained pleasant and professional, even if he did not agree with you.
He says the former General Secretary of the National Union of Public Workers believed in advancing the cause of workers in Barbados, and particularly in advancing the cause of workers employed by Government.
The Minister notes Mr. Clarke’s commitment to the regional movement was probably best seen when he took on the responsibility of researching and chronicling the development of trade unionism in the public service across the Caribbean.
He believes Mr. Clarke’s legacy will live on through his work and that book, titled “Caribbean Public Service Unionism”.
